Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phases 1 & 2

Leeds FAS is an ambitious region-wide flood defence programme that is key to Leeds City Councils plans to bolster protection for homes and businesses, and is split into two phases. MCC have been supporting Leeds City Council from this projects inception.

Our service offering has included commercial assurance, NEC contract administration, risk management, and specialist programe support.

Phase 1

The first phase of this scheme provided 1 in 100 year protection to Leeds City Centre south of the train station, through a combination of innovative movable weirs and linear defences.

It aimed to protect more than 3,500 homes and 500 commercial city centre properties as well as critical access routes to Leeds train station.

This phase of the project completed in 2017.

Phase 2

Following the success of Phase 1, the second phase between Leeds Train Station and Apperley Bridge began.

A combination of traditional engineering methods and Natural Flood Management is being used to provide a 1 in 200 year level of protection against flooding.

The scheme will protect 1,048 homes and 474 businesses. Once the scheme is completed, it will help protect against similar flooding to Storm Eva.

Works are currently being delivered on site and are due to complete in October 2023.
