Regent Street Flyover

Regent Flyover was originally built in the 1960s and is a key arterial route into Leeds City Centre. The adjoining A64M and A61 provide capacity for 70,000 vehicles per day and is a key part of Leeds infrastructure. The condition of the flyover meant that it required significant works to ensure public safety. The solution was to replace the existing structure with a new one.

Our service offering has included commercial assurance working collaboratively with Leeds City Councils Project Team. This role also encompassed forensic programme analysis.

The Regent Street Flyover project was a design and build scheme procured through the SCAPE Framework. The detailed design was completed by WSP, with early contractor involvement from Balfour Beatty who then went on to deliver the main works.

The construction works were completed in two phases, and the intricately planned solution allowed the project team to demolish and replace half the bridge at a time. This aided in minimising and controlling disruptions to local stakeholders.

Another innovative solution that helped in the success of Regent Street was the use of Modern Methods of Construction. This allowed the project team to complete large portions of the fabrication works off-site, which resulted in a shorter construction programme.

The project team on Regent Street Flyover strived to foster a transparent and trusting ethos to allow for open channels of communication, this aided in all parties coming together as one team, to help deliver this challenging and complex project.
