Harewood Bridge

The historic Grade II* listed Harewood Bridge carries the A61 Leeds to Harrogate road across the River Wharfe at Harewood. The important crossing sees 17,000 vehicles use it each day.

The project helps Leeds City Council to consistently provide an improved highways system.

Matthews Construction Consultants supported Leeds City Council by providing independent commercial assurance across the entirety of the project and aided the project management team with aspects of the contract administration.

Start Date: April 2023

Completion Date: August 2023

Location: Leeds, United Kingdom

Leeds City Council and the project team provided works that entailed waterproofing and resurfacing the bridge, and completed footpath repairs.

The benefits of the project allowed for:

  • Increased journey reliability and a reduction in congestion, as a result of unplanned emergency closures for carriageway repairs

  • Reduced risk of accidents caused by potholes

  • Reduced risk of damage to vehicle cause by potholes

These essential emergency maintenance works were carried out at pace and completed ahead of schedule to minimise disruption to the public during the closure of a key route connecting Leeds and Harrogate.
